HISTORY OF POINT LISAS
Point Lisas, Trinidad, where the most ambitious industrialisation took flight, from the main commodity of the old economy, sugar, gave way to the new technology and development of the petrochemical industry.
The development of Point Lisas, would see the influx of many foreign investors and the exponential growth of Trinidad’s economy. Thanks to Point Lisas, and Point-a-Pierre refinery complex, further ventures in Point Fortin were explored and Trinidad and Tobago became the top methanol exporter from a study conducted by CMAI World Methanol Analysis 2010.
Canadian company, Methanex Corporation, and Methanol Holdings Trinidad Limited are the methanol companies responsible for such success.
According to The Observatory of Economic Complexity, Trinidad and Tobago is the top exporter of Ammonia ahead of Russia and Canada. Lastly, Atlantic LNG Company of Trinidad and Tobago shaped Trinidad’s exportation of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) resulting in a world ranking of the seventh highest exporters of LNG from a study by Statista.
